One Picture Tells…Priti Horrid
Paste up on a wall in London of the home secretary Priti Patel who is a very controversial figure. According to the YouGov website Patel is the third most popular Conservative politician. However, popular can mean just heard of the most in the news as the YouGov websites ratings state that only 30 per cent of GB has a positive opinion of her and a whopping 42 per cent of the country have a negative opinion of her. Could it be down to her behaviour? In 2017 Patel was forced to quit as international development secretary, in former PM Theresa May’s government, after it emerged that she held 14 unofficial meetings with Israeli ministers, businesspeople and a senior lobbyist. This year the UN has warned her that her overhaul of immigration laws on the rights of asylum seekers in the UK “risk breaking international law.” Last year she was repeatedly warned to show her staff more respect and not shout and swear at them and in general to stop bullying them. Legal correspondence alleges that a former aide of hers took an overdose of prescription medicine following an alleged incident of bullying from Patel in 2015. Resulting in the woman receiving a £25,000 pay out from the government. The home secretaries most recent comments state that English football fans have the right to boo the England team for “taking the knee” in protest at racism.
